The oldest companies that continue to operate in each of their respective sectors

These are the oldest companies in the world that currently continue to operate and are very successful.

1-. Bank

The fundamentals of money lending date back to at least two millennia before the Common Era, and in Greece and Rome similar banks are still operating today. In 1472 was opened in Siena the Monte dei Paschi, a bank in which perhaps Leonardo DA Vinci made some deposits. He survived the wars of the last 550 years and now struggles to stay afloat amidst the delicate Italian banking situation that threatens to drag the Eurozone.

2-. Battery cymbals

In 1618, an Armenian alchemist named Avedis, based in Constantinople, mixed tin, copper and silver in the hope of obtaining gold. He did not get the longed for metal, but one that emitted a very characteristic sound. The Ottoman army began to use noisy cymbals made of the alloy to intimidate the enemy. In 1929, the company Avedis Zildjian moved to Massachusetts and today dominates the world market of cymbals; 400 years later, its great secret remains the metallic formula.

3-. Pharmacy

In 1612, the Dominican friars of the monastery of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy, opened to the public a place where they provided people with very low prices balsams, ointments and soaps that they had been making with herbalist herbs since 1221. The pharmacy is still open almost 4 centuries later.

4-. Brewery

In 1040, Arnold, abbot of Weihenstephan Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery located north of the German city of Munich, obtained a license to brew beer. In the course, the monastery and its brewery survived 4 fires, an earthquake and several wars and plagues, including the famous Black Plague. In 1803, the abbey was dissolved, but the brewery did not close and almost a thousand years later, it continues to produce frothy.

5-. Pub

Since the 1100 years, it has been serving drinks, Sean’s Bar has kept a record with the names of its owners, a list that includes the English musician Boy George, who was its owner for a short time in 1987. If you want to have and enjoy a cold and delicious beer in this sanctuary of drinkers where sprees have been running since the 10th century, you must go to the small Irish town of Athlone.

6-. Restaurant

Among the companies with the highest mortality rates are restaurants; almost 60% of them fail during the first year and another high fraction does not reach 5 years. Reasons why it is a feat that Stiftskeller St. Peter of Salzburg, Austria, has been serving dishes for over 1200 years. We do not know if Mozart would enjoy a strudel on the site, but what is certain is once a week, the restaurant serves a dinner enlivened with the compositions of the city’s most famous songs, with musicians dressed in period costumes.
