Emily 9 de September del 2016 High Life
Unlike most cities, where it costs an arm and a leg to live and that “no more than 30% of your income on housing” rule is just a cruel joke, there are some cities that will actually pay you to live there. This comes in the form of housing subsidies, tuition reimbursement, and tax benefits – all designed to attract more people to the city. So if you haven’t settled down anywhere yet and have an open mind, you might consider one of these 5 cities that will pay you to live there.

Cities that offer financial rewards for living in them

  1. Basically the entire state of Alaska: apparently, the state saves 25% of what it earns from selling oil and petroleum and invests that money to pay out to all residents of Alaska each year. You’re eligible to receive the money as long as you don’t spend more than 180 outside of the state in a year.
  2. Niagara Falls, NY: this city is surprisingly small, with a population of just 50,000, despite being so famous for its waterfalls. Niagara Falls is particular interested in attracting young people, so it’s offering tuition reimbursement of up to $3500 for up to 2 years.
  3. Curtis, NE: if you always dreamed about being a pioneer moving westwards to build your own log cabin, Curtis, Nebraska would like to offer you a free lot to build it on. The catch: you have to start construction within 6 months and finish within 24 months.
  4. Harmony, MN: come be neighbors with the Amish in this tiny, picturesque city of just over 1,000 people. The city is offering cash discounts for construction of new homes of up to $12,000.
  5. Saskatchewan, Canada: recent grads thinking about getting a Masters or Doctorate, the province of Saskatchewan is offering discounted tuition if you show that you have a rental agreement there.
